With mobile computers and wireless networking hardware becoming widely, and increasingly cheaply, available, a large body of effort has recently gone into integrating this technology with the existing, prevailingly wired Internet. Up to now, integration specifications oftentimes assume some kind of fixed, hence wired, infrastructure even for the wireless part, like a core of base stations or access points.
